3 man tunnel tents are extremely easy to put up and are normally very light which makes them ideal for expeditions that involve the need to carry all your equipment with you on your person. They are a particularly good idea if you are planning a hiking trip with a couple of friends and need somewhere to sleep overnight.
Tunnel tents tend to have a sleeping area in the centre with an entrance and porch area at either end for ease of access and storage area. As you usually will only enter the tent through one entrance they are great for storing your packs and other equipment in the opposite porch but try to use the entrance that is least exposed to the elements otherwise you will find the wind and rain entering the tent every time you open the doorway. At the other end of the spectrum, it is great to have two entrances when camping in the heat as you can open up both ends and get a through draft into your sleeping area, cooling it down a little.
With tunnel tents all having a similar design, it is important that you get the right model for your needs. For example, if you are constantly on the move and are staying in a different place every night, then you will have a greater need to erect and disassemble your 3 man tent. This would call for a smaller, lightweight version to be used. If you are staying in one place for any length of time then you may want to look for a heavier, more sturdy larger model which will give you the chance to move about a bit when inside.
That being said, even though a 3 man tunnel tent is designed for three men, you will often find that you do not have enough room, especially on extended holidays. If this is to be the case then instead of looking to purchase a 3 man tent, you may want to purchase a larger model such as a four or five person model. This will give a greater flexibility of use and allow for a more comfortable stay in your tent
