More on Drug Addiction Recovery

Those who seek recovery from drug addiction have one purpose in mind and that is to have a life that is free of the use of drugs.  Most drug addiction recovery programs have a number of ways to change a life destructive action into a healthier way of living. When recovering from drug addiction, some programs will consider addiction medications such as methadone to be no better than the illicit drugs that people were using.  So they will try to detoxify the body without help from pain relivers or any other type of drug. This approach can be very uncomfortable for the person in recovery. It is the goal of some of these programs that perhaps the withdrawal will be remembered and so help the person to not return to previous patterns of drug use.

One step in drug addiction recovery will be the teaching of coping techniques that will subject the recovering addicted to the types of situations where they would usualy take drugs. They will learn skills to be able to avoid the types of situations that would have formerly caused them to use in these trigger situations. In some cases the patient will have sessions with a psychotherapist, who will help them learn skills to look for help and support when they are having a hard time with the addiction to drugs. There are also various support groups that will help in the recovery from drug addicton.

Some of these are what are known as the 12 step programs. These 12 step programs help the person with addiction to drugs, alcohol, over eating, and many other addictions that stop people from leading a healthy life.  Drug addiction can sneak up on people, sometimes it happens by taking an addictive drug that a doctor has prescribed. The body then starts to become dependent on the drug. If care is not taken to withdraw properly, than addiction can happen.

Know what you are taking and what the side effects are, and please seek help if you need it.
