Budget-Friendly Bathroom Design Tips

The bathroom is one of the places in the house where you get some alone time, and pamper yourself. It is more than just a place where you take your baths or do your business. It is a place of recollection where you get to mull over the events of the day while engaging in some soothing aroma therapy as part of your daily cleansing routine. If you find that your current bathroom is cluttered and old, you might need to look into improving your bathroom design. You do not have to engage on an expensive bathroom installation project, or hire several contractors to renovate your existing set-up. With a bit of creativity, you can do a lot for a very low price.

First of all, start planning your new bathroom design on a clean slate. This means removing the things that do not belong in the loo. Stash empty shampoo and liquid soap bottles in the recycling bin outside. Empty out rubbish bins overflowing with dirty cotton and tissue. Wipe the grime off spotty mirrors. Throw away cardboard toilet rolls that you have neglected. Get rid of old rugs, if you have any and make sure to never replace them again (as they do not belong there).

Once you have everything spic and span, you can look into various bathroom installation options, or you can give your existing bathroom fixtures a good buffing. This means dusting your fitted cabinets and perhaps spraying a light coat of anti-bacterial wax on it to keep it looking great and germ-free. Polish the surfaces of your marble or ceramic sinks. Replace old bulbs with energy saving versions with better lighting features.

Finally, you can improve your present bathroom design with some decorative accents. Engage in an arts and crafts affair with your family or significant other, or have fun doing it on your own. Add these small bits and pieces to give it a more personalized and cozy look and feel.

Girls and Their Canopy Beds

I’ve bought so many bed canopies, canopy bedding and canopy beds generally that I feel like a human canopy bed guide. Maybe I should start a website of my own? I don’t really understand how this came to be the case as I don’t even like canopy beds that much. I don’t actually dislike them, which is just as well, I think they have their place, say in a hotel, but I don’t see what all the fuss is about. Yes, I understand that they can be romantic and I get that the craftsmanship on some of them can be really outstanding, but I’m not sure what their real appeal is in the modern world. However try telling that to the women in my life.

Basically all the woman I’ve ever been involved with seem to have a love affair with the four poster bed. My mother loved them, I’ve been married twice and both wives loved them and I’ve got three daughters and guess what? That’s right, they all love canopy beds, what is it about me that attracts these princess canopy bed obsessed woman? I’ll tell you one thing for nothing…they’re not cheap, but then again woman never are!

I don’t like to begrudge the people I love anything so I have patiently accepted my role in their interior design obsession and as long as the items they are buying are tasteful and well made I don’t mind. I did once have to draw the line at some monstrous plastic and bright pink bed canopy that one of my daughters wanted. I think it was some sort of cheap Chinese import sporting some crass themed character from one of those children’s programs. I wasn’t prepared to have something so crass in my home even if it was in my daughters bedroom. I think my decision was fair, she was upset for about a week but, as I guessed, she soon found something new that took her fancy.

What to Avoid When Choosing Colors for Your Hall

The hall seems like such an unimportant room and is often not given much thought when it comes to decoration. But as it is the first room to greet both you and your visitors when you arrive at your home it is a shame not to give it more attention. When choosing a color scheme for your hall, here are the things you should avoid:-

1. Using Colors which are Too Dark

The hall in most homes lacks natural light as there are generally few windows. Don’t make the problem worse by using a dark color on the walls and floor as that will soak up any light there is. If you use a paler color it will reflect some of the light back into the room and increase it.

2. Using Colors which are Unwelcoming

If you use cool colors in your hall, your home will seem cold and unfriendly. It is the difference between being greeted by a cool icy blue and a warm sunny yellow. So try and use warm rather than cold colors in your hall.

3. Using Colors which are too Dull

A pale cream color on the walls and solid oak wood flooring may be a nice neutral combination but make sure you introduce some color to add impact otherwise your hall will seem unspeakably dull. In a hall there is generally not much space but if you can fit one in a brightly colored armchair gives a welcoming touch or you could add bright artwork to your walls which add color and a talking point without taking up a lot of space.

4. Using Colors which Clash with Other Rooms

The hall generally leads to a number of other rooms. It is important that the decor does not clash with them as doors may often be left open. If your rooms are decorated in a number of different styles and colors choose a neutral shade for the hall to reduce clashing. It also helps if the floor (or at least flooring color) stays consistent throughout your home even if the color of walls changes.
