A lot of people have wondered whether it is actually possible to get liposuction without surgery. The truth is that although some people refer to various liposuction techniques as being “non surgical” – they all are considered “surgery.” Even the least invasive form of liposuction, called “laser lipo” is considered a type of surgery. The reason that these are considered to be surgical is because they involve incisions with a scalpel and fat is removed. Most of the older techniques leave bigger scars than the newer ones, but all of them are considered “surgery.” What are the differences in technique between the newer and older procedures?
With the older liposuction techniques, a surgeon uses a scalpel to first cut open the area of the body in which you would like the fat deposits to be removed from. After the area is numbed, the surgeon will cut it open and insert small tubes called “cannulas” into the body. These cannulas will then suck out as much fat as is required to get the look that is desired. Most people end up getting about five to ten pounds of fat removed from their body, but this amount will be subject to variation depending on the patient.
Newer liposuction techniques are done pretty much the same way, except before the fat is removed from the body; it is lasered down (e.g. liquefied) so that more can be sucked out with a smaller incision. So newer techniques are able to reduce scarring the most and they are able to get more fat removed in a shorter duration of time. The only other major difference between newer and older techniques is that newer ones tend to be a couple thousand dollars more expensive. If you are looking to get cheap liposuction surgery, you are probably going to have to settle on an older procedure which will result in more post-surgical scarring.
