In a house that is three stories tall, consisting of five bedrooms, two garages, and a lovely pool out back, it would be logical to think that the focal point of a house like that could be located anywhere. Perhaps the kids spend all of their summer hours in the pool, maybe the parents spend their time reading in the sun room; although, the truth is that the whole family loves to spend their relaxing time right there in the living room.
Indeed, the living room! Complete with the family’s beloved big screen television, comfortable couches and love seat in the corner, natural light, and of course, the cream rug. How pedestrian! How suburban! The large, relatively worn cream rug, a staple in the family for years. Perhaps it didn’t go along perfectly with the otherwise modern feel of the house, but sometimes, the design and style of certain pieces don’t matter as much as the warm and unexplainable vibes an old heirloom gives off. Their cream rug was humble and it had played its roll to perfection over the years it had been in the family.
Quiet, modest, and and always comfortable, the rug was just like that final puzzle piece, the glue of the entire spirit of the house. It was eight feet by eight feet and had a color that was just close enough to be thought of as “agreeable” with the color scheme of the room. Of course it was worn from the use of multiple family generations, but the comfort had increased, like valuable real estate! Items like that are rare. Items that become family heirlooms and historical artifacts all at once. Items, like cream rugs, that end up becoming a historical storybook, rich with culture and bursting with love that only the family can feel.
